The Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP), has extended its usual supporting arms to the Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) to create a platform for Agribusinesses and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to exhibit their products and share trade information at the Industry and Agriculture 2019 Annual National and International Trade Fair held at the National Stadium from the 20th March to the 28th April 2019.
The Trade Fair is organized by the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce to enhance opportunities for Sierra Leonean Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Cooperate Institutions to not only exhibit their products before thousands of Sierra Leoneans, but to also network with foreign participants. According to the Chamber, this event has over the years attracted participants from the Manor River Union (MRU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Africa Union (AU) Countries and local participants.
SCADeP is a project that seeks to promote smallholder commercialization through productive business linkages between smallholder farmers and selected agribusiness firms and other commodity off-takers in Sierra Leone. its interventions are to improve agricultural productivity and access to markets along the value chain.
SLIEPA’s involvement in the Trade Fair is to showcase SLIEPA and SCADeP services, create market opportunity and partnership for agribusinesses and SMEs in a bid to augment export and to update exhibitors’ database.
SLIEPA and SCADeP have enjoyed a sustainable partnership over the years. Among other implementations, their Market Linkages and Business to Business (B2B) trainings for Agribusinesses, Small and Medium Enterprises and Farmer-Based Organizations have been an eye opener to new marketing techniques, various business strategies and value addition to agriproducts; all geared towards expanding investment and export in Sierra Leone.
