SLIEPA, on 16th May, 2018, met with US Embassy Representatives led by Dr. Derrin Smith of the Economic and Commercial Section of the United States Mission in Sierra Leone. Briefing the delegation on behalf of SLIEPA the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dylan Sogie Thomas, spoke about the mandate of the agency, which is investment promotion and export development in Sierra Leone. He said that, some of the activities relating to export is to identify export ready businesses and new markets for potential exporters; Packaging activities; Profiling Exporters and work with the Corporate Affairs Commission for future linkages.
In line with the investment portfolio, The CEO spoke about, providing packaged deals for investors (Land and Incentives), Policy Advocacy and Aftercare Services, which will be used to attract investors, and to keep track of them when they have been established in the country; Perception Survey that would help potential investors to take a decision in investing in Sierra Leone and Create Customer relationship Management in order to get the performance of established companies in Sierra Leone.
The Director of Investment Promotion, Mr. Farrel Elliot, spoke about the American owned investments projects (Companies)currently going on; which include, Sierra Tropical (SL) a subsidiary of Dole Foods, Sierra Akar, Melo Africa, etc. He also said that, there is a great need for investors in the following sectors: renewable energy, Tourism and Fisheries.
The Director of Export Promotion, Mr. Shiaka Kawa, spoke about SLIEPA’s role in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the development of the National AGOA strategy due to the extension of the AGOA programme to enable countries from Sub-Sahara Africa Sierra Leone inclusive to benefit from the programme.
In his statement Dr. Derrin Smith, of the Economic and Commercial Section expressed the missions interest to work with SLIEPA and promote Sierra Leone to credible investors that will operate under four key principles, High technological and skills transfer, create Jobs for Sierra Leoneans, corporate governance and transparency and engage in corporate social responsibility projects.
Mrs Elizabeth Massally, Director of Finance and Administration SLIEPA handed over investment and promotional materials developed by SLIEPA to Dr Derrin Smith on behalf of SLIEPA and Mr Francis Minah SLIEPA’s Marketing and Communications Manger delivered the vote of thanks.
